About Me
Hi, I'm Kathie (she/they), I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, that identifies as an Asian American, queer, non-binary person. It's been difficult to find therapists that reflect marginalized experiences which is what called me to this work. I operate through an embodied, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, intersectional feminist lens.
I use Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, body awareness, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and narrative therapy approach to achieve self-compassion and understanding of one's mental health and well being. Each individual is unique and different therefore treatment will be tailored to your needs. My style is to be honest, non-judgmental, and real with you. This is a space created for you to bring your inner world and past experiences. Here we will unpack, organize and make sense of how friends, family, society, dominant narratives, and systems and institutions have contributed to your conditioning and patterning that you maybe struggling with today.
I tell my clients all the time, that a lot of the work we do is actually unlearning the many things that we’ve been taught to believe about ourselves and others. Once we unlearn these unhelpful ways of looking at the self, we can then implement new ways of operating that will bring us closer to the perfect person that already resides in us.
After graduating with an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, I completed my post-graduation hours towards licensure in a community mental health setting where I serviced youth, young adolescents, and families. I have spent the last two years working with adults in private practice settings. I received my BA in Gender and Ethnic Studies from CSULB and am an avid yoga practitioner.
